What is a good book on all the different types of painting supports and how to prepare?
I found a book called "The Book Oil Painting: Techniques and Materials for today's artists, but just kind of details on the different media and manner of its preparation, its not really a step by step guide that I wanted. I would like to include the preparation of metal surfaces such as copper, aluminum and paint on wood panels and as panels of wood covered with cloth. Thanks guys!
First, avoid the artist Ralph Mayer Manual materials and techniques. Mayer was often more interested to dominate the market to provide accurate information. The book contains inaccurate information designed to undermine his contemporaries, namely, Frederick Taubes and Jacques Maroger. Then separate chapters are devoted to every medium of painting, composition, characteristics and application methods.
